Artist Interview #6 : DJ Billy C
Q: What is your style like, how would you describe it?
- I try not to be pinned down to one certain style. My forte is Dance/Electronic music, but I always try to mix it up and try different things. When I'm playing live, I always try to keep the crowd guessing.
Q: How long have you been making music?
- I have been producing music since 2009, but I have been singing in the shower since '94.
Q: What got you into music?
- I have always loved and been interested in music since I was a little kid. I started to get serious with producing and djing my freshman year here at Salem. I had two friends who lived in my dorm who were DJ's and they really helped me out and got me started.
Q: If you could perform with any artist alive now, who would it be and why?
- Deadmau5. He has been my favorite artist since high school and it has always been a dream of mine to be able to play with him someday.
Q: What inspires you?
- The biggest thing that inspires me is seeing the enjoyment on peoples faces when I'm playing. Whether it's at the club or at a house party, nothing feels better than looking out at the crowd and seeing everyone have a great time. It motivates me to keep working hard and reminds me of how much I love doing what I do.
Q: Where do you want to go with your music?
- I want to go as far as I possibly can with music. I've been very lucky to have been able to play all over the east coast these past three years, but I want to do a lot more than that. I don't want to just play around the country, but around the world. When it comes to my own music, I really want to focus on producing more original tracks in the near future. My music has been supported and played all around the world by some of the worlds biggest DJ's, including Tiesto, which is a true honor. Now it is time for me to step up my game and do whatever it takes to follow in those guys footsteps.
Q: How do you feel about being nominated in your category?
- It is an honor to be nominated by the student body for Student DJ of the Year. I got my start here at this school doing events and house parties and having the support of the students here really means a lot. If it wasn't for all of them I wouldn't have been able to do anything I've done with music these past few years.
